PRECISION WELDING
South Bay Fabrication offers a full suite of welding services for a wide range of applications and industries.
ABOUT WELDING
Welding is a critical part of the metal fabrication process, joining individual components to create strong, durable parts and assemblies. The right welding process depends on several factors, including material type and thickness, joint design, appearance requirements, production volume, and the intended use of the finished product.
South Bay Fabrication offers five welding stations and multiple welding styles to accommodate a wide range of fabrication requirements, from precision components and prototypes to larger production assemblies. Learn more about our processes below.
About MIG Welding
Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), commonly known as MIG welding, uses a continuously fed wire electrode to create strong, efficient welds. Its speed and versatility make it well suited for many fabrication and production applications.
South Bay Fabrication's MIG welding capabilities include equipment designed for steel, stainless steel, and aluminum applications, as well as pulse MIG welding for greater control on projects where heat input, weld quality, and appearance are important.
Advantages of MIG Welding include:
-
Fast, efficient welds
-
Well-suited for production fabrication
-
Versatility across a range of materials and thicknesses
-
Strong, consistent welds

About TIG Welding
Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), more commonly called TIG welding, provides precise control over the welding process and produces exceptionally clean, high-quality welds. It is particularly valuable for applications involving thinner materials, detailed components, or projects where the appearance of the finished weld is important.
TIG welding can be used with materials including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, making it a versatile choice for precision fabrication.
Advantages of TIG Welding include:
-
Excellent control and precision
-
Clean, high-quality weld appearance
-
Well suited for thin or intricate components
-
Versatility across multiple metals

About Resistance Spot Welding
Resistance spot welding joins overlapping pieces of sheet metal by applying pressure and electrical current at concentrated points. The resulting resistance generates heat at the joint, creating a strong localized weld without the need for filler material.
The process is fast and repeatable, making it particularly useful for sheet metal assemblies and production applications requiring multiple consistent weld points.
Advantages of Resistance Spot Welding include:
-
Fast and repeatable
-
Minimal localized heat input
-
No filler material required
-
Well suited for sheet metal assemblies

About Stud Welding
Stud welding is a fast, reliable process used to permanently attach metal studs, bolts, fasteners, or other components to a base material. An electric arc generates heat between the stud and the workpiece, melting both surfaces before the stud is pressed into the molten material to create a strong fusion weld.
Because the process can be completed from one side of the workpiece, stud welding is especially useful for applications where access to the backside is limited or where a clean, secure attachment is required.
Advantages of Stud Welding include:
-
Requires access from only one side
-
Eliminates the need for drilling or tapping
-
Produces a full cross-sectional weld
-
Reduces installation time
